How long does it take?

Hi everyone,

I've been scrapping today. Literally, I've been scrapping all day. It takes me ages to scrap, I try to scrap quickly, I had set myself a deadline today so I could get homework done this afternoon, but it never happened as it seems to take ages for me to create one LO. Here is the result of a whole day scrapping.

I think I like it, I'm not sure, I don't love it like I do some of my other pages, but I'm not sure why. Here are some close ups
I decided to do my journalling across a few journalling blocks, as I have seen many others doing this and like the effect. I have used some of my new October Afternoon journalling block stickers, I'm loving this company at the moment, the background paper is there's too.
I've seen a few paper windmill embellishments recently, so I decided to make one myself, I love it in felt, it works really well :)
I've made two of these flowers myself, the green one and the felt one. I really enjoyed making them, it feels great to handmake such pretty flowers for your own layouts. I might sit down some time, when I have a bit more time, and make a whole batch of flowers, experimenting with colours, techniques and designs.

This LO follows the current Sketchy Thursday's sketch 6.2, which is a really great sketch and I may have to revisit it. Here's the sketch

Do you see the stitched border around the LO? That's probably the culprit as to why I spent so long on the LO. We have no sewing machine, so I have had to sit and sew the entire border, and I am not quick at sewing. We will get a sewing machine at some point, Mum and I both want one and I think Mum may be asking for one for her birthday, so hopefully...

So, how long do you spend making a LO? Are you quite a quick scrapper, and if so, do you have any tips? Do you scrap a LO all in one go, or do you start it and then keep coming back until you're finished? I'd love to hear from you.

I hope you like it, and please leave any tips you can, I can't afford to keep spending whole days scrapbooking when I should be working, and I don't want to stop scrapbooking!!!!

Bye for now,

I'd love to offer a tip but I'm a massively slow scrapper. But on the other hand, I find that if I just slap stuff on, I end up not really liking the page. So I'd rather scrap at my own pace, enjoying and indulging in crafty time and end up with something I love.

Sometimes pages do just come together though. And I often watch telly while I scrap so it's basically multi-tasking.

Maybe you could stop doing the homework?

another very slow scrapper here Hannah....sometimes i leave a half done layout for days before i finish it off.

Your layout is lovely, the journalling across the spots is great x

Hi Hannah
There's a wee tool called the sew-easy by We Are Memory Keepers which pierces holes for you to stitch into which would cut down your time, but your layout is great anyway!

Your page is awesome! I have been scrapbooking for quite a while, and all I can say is that it doesn't really matter how long it takes to do a layout. What matters is that you enjoy the process as much as the finished creation! I have done quick pages and others have taken me forever! But each page is a lovely piece of myself when I am all done! Keep at it - your talent is fabulous!

I am also a slow scrapper! I love hand stitching (no sewing machine, yet) so that can be super time consuming. I absolutely love your layout! I think we have similar styles, I'm definately going to stop back and look at more, your work is gorgeous!

Well I think it's a very pretty page Hannah and I love your stiching. I always pre hole my page before stiching. Do you do this? It saves so much time. And if I'm doing alot of sticthing I save it to do in front of the tv : )
Have a good week xx

Hannah, I thought your page was lovely too. One tip I have is....once I've seen a sketch (or other challenge) I let it sit in my brain and think about it for a bit. Especially when I figure out what photos I want to use. For me the layout seems to form in my mind and then its easier....and sometimes faster.....to get down onto paper. But I also agree with Joanne's comment about enjoying the process no matter how long it takes. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your work!

Such a lovely layout Hannah. I'm also a slow scrapper so I can't really offer much advice other than just enjoy it, as long as you enjoy the time you spend, I don't think it matters. I am so impressed by your hand stitching...I don't have a sewing machine either but I just tend to not bother sewing, which is a shame because I love how it looks, I just don't have the patience to hand sew!

Some of mine are quick and some slow. The ones I really love tend to be slower ones as I put more work in. I always do layouts in one go as if I leave them then come back I think they look really disjointed.
That said I love your layout! That wouldnt probably have took me all day too with all the different elements and handmade embellishments too. :)

Beautiful LO...and all the hand sewing - well done :) Love the twine and all the embellishments and hand made flowers. I spend quite a long while on my LOs - they often span a couple of evenings as I like to start and then come back to it...sleep on it I guess!

I wouldn't worry on how long it takes for you to complete a page it's all about having fun and creating a keep sake. It take's me about a whole evening to sometimes in to the next to make a layout. I'm a little quicker if its following a class but I'm not fussed. Your page looks divine, I think you have done a wonderful job and should be proud :)

Love the page Hannah but like you, I have to have my layout on the table for a while to get used to it or change it if I decide I don't like it! One can see that it is handmade with love. *Ü* TFS. ~Glen~

Gorgeous layout Hannah, it takes me ages to scrap too, I avoid the housework to do it, but I wouldn't recommend avoiding your homework, trust me, it's what I did & I kind of regret it now :D
Stick with it, you'll speed up.

Love the LO, Hannah! I am a fairly quick scrapper, but I tend to be more simple. I don't do huge embellie clusters. I also recommend the Sew Easy tool.

Thank you for your lovely comments. I love your page and the colours and I have no doubt you will be a favorite again. I am also a very slow scrapper and it takes me forever to pick all the bits and pieces that match. My friends tell me that kits are a good idea to save time as it is all colour coordinated for you, but it also takes me forevere before I am happy with my page !! Plus I have to fit scarpbooking around family and work commitments so I am veeerrrryyyy slow !! I tend to reward myself with some scrap time after I have done the boring bits, may be you could do the same with your homework !
PS: Are going to try the GD call on Sketchy Thursdays?

I tend to take my time when scrapbooking too. I had the one I was working on this week on my desk for at least 3 days! Then I got stuck on deciding the title for the page! :) Here is my take on the sketch, Papa and me! Have a great week!

I absolutely love all of the fun little extras on the page. And don't worry about the speed. Sometimes I revisit a page for days. Only you know when it's time to step away from a page. Your work is gorgeous, so you have to be on to something! :)

Such a sweet pretty layout Hannah! Love the lovely details in your piece! :)

I try to get most of my layouts done in under an hour. When I get stuck on one, I move to another and come back to see it with fresh eyes. When I like how an embellishment looks on the page, I glue it down with liquid glue so I can't fiddle with it further without tearing a hole...*lol* Hope this helps!

This is just beautiful! I understand the feeling of doing a page and then not liking it, but honestly, I don't know what's NOT to like about this page!!! :) I love your title and your handwriting is beautiful! Thanks for joining us this week at Sketchy Thursdays!
