Bright and Colourful

Hi everyone,

Here is a digi page I've created. I've used the Sketchy Thursday's sketch and a few bright and colourful digi elements that I haven't used before. I'm really pleased with it, I kept it quite basic and am pleased I did. I think I may do all of my photos from our Rangers trip to Ireland as digi pages, so far I've only scrapped one of them. Anyway, here is this page.

A few challenges

This week I've combined two challenges onto one single layout. For this page I've used the pencil lines sketch 230 and the recent challenge on the better living through scrapbooking blog. I came across this blog the other day and like the sort of challenges that they give, so I shall have to keep an eye on this blog too and do some of the challenges :)

The sketch over at pencil lines this week is


The B.L.T.S challenge blog gives a guideline and a few other things to include in your LO. This weeks challenge is to use nothing more sophisticated than scissors and paper punches to create your page. I thought this would be easy as I was struggling to remember the last time I used the cricut or anything like that for a LO, but when actually doing the page I realised I use the sidekick and sizzix dies quite a bit, especially for titles. However, I managed it, with the most technical thing I used being punches.

I also had to use at least 2 of the given criteria (see here). So on my page I've used a page from a book to create both the flower and a circle scrap, I've made some paper people, and I've also made the flower using an online tutorial. The flower tutorial can be found here (I used the second tutorial), I've discovered that this works better with cardstock than paper as this flower hasn't got such a lovely shape as the other one I did on this page.

Word-A-Week photography challenge #6

Wow, I can't believe this is the sixth week of my little challenge.

Here is this weeks word.

Round. This will be open to a wide interpretation, lets see what I can come up with :)

On the subject of photography, when I looked at blogger this morning I screamed. I've had a comment left by the one and only Ashley Rodgers!!!!! I couldn't believe it, she'd commented on my photos of my friend. Wow, I just ...  wow, I follow her blog and absolutely love her photography, so to have her comment on my photos completely out of the blue (I'm not sure how she found me) absolutely stunned me this morning. Thanks Ashley, it meant a lot :D

Right, I'm off to start thinking about this weeks word, umm, round.....

Word-A-Week photography challenge #5

Hi,
Here are my photos for 'Furry'

(I just had to do one of our dog!!)

It's been interesting trying to find things to suit 'Furry', but I'm quite happy with them, even though it's a really random photo, I really like the folds and shapes in the second photo (a furry blanket).

Pencil Lines sketch 229

Hi everyone.

Here is my LO for Pencil Lines sketch 229. I did have a page planned for my Prom scrapbook that would use this sketch but I didn't like it so I left that and did a digi page with it instead.

These photos are the sort where they're awful photos in quality but look good together and mean a lot to me so they were worth scrapping. This page was fun to do and I'm really pleased with it. I am pleased with my Digi Scrapping in general, and as you may have noticed I am doing quite a few at the moment. I am trying to develop my digi scrapping as when I go to uni it'll be a great way to keep scrapping and being creative :)

Word-A-Week photography challenge #4

Hi everyone,

Here is my photo for this weeks Word-A-Week challenge (point)

I have wanted to take this photo for a long time after seeing it as an example of differential focus on one of CJ's workshops. It fitted well with this week's word so I decided to try it at last. I used an aperture of f/1.7, which we can achieve using our prime lens. I love the really shallow depth of field :)

Scrapbook page

I've got a page to share with you today. I made this to enter into the Pencil Lines DT. They released their DT on Wednesday and unfortunately I wasn't successful (I'm not surprised, I didn't actually like the LO very much, I tried to cram too much on it and didn't like the end result). Take a look at their website for their new DT, they have picked some really fab people, I can't wait to see their work over the next year :)

So here is the LO I made and the sketch I followed.

I'm not keen on it but I thought I'd share it anyway.

I am planning to scrap with the current sketch sometime this weekend, so I'll be back with that once I've done it :)

My first little photo shoot

Hi everyone.

Today I have some portrait photos to show you. I really love portrait photography and there is only a certain amount of times that Mum and James want to be the subject of my portrait photography practise. So when my good friend Parrish agreed to meet up with me in the half term and come on a photo shoot and shopping trip to Cambridge I was really grateful. We had a great day, the weather was just perfect, not too cold and not too sunny. I was really pleased with all of the photos I took.

Crafty goodness and module results

I've a few crafty things to share with you today.

First of all, a birthday card. One of my friends turned 17 this week and this is the card I made for her.

She loves dogs, so, after persuading Mum to buy this cute dog digi stamp from Bee Crafty downloads, I suddenly realised a perfect use for it. I've coloured it using my Pastel pencils (it was great using them again after buying them for my Art GCSE and not using them since), wrapped brown and white bakers twine around the front of the card with a slit cut in the spine, and then stamped the greeting. She liked the card, which is the most important thing :)

Now, some more crafting. I've managed to do pencil lines sketch 228 this week, and used it not once but twice!! During the week I made a digi page using the sketch, here it is,

And today I have sat down and done the 'paper and scissors' scrapbook page I'd been planning in my head all week. I am really pleased with it, here it is

I have used Tim Holtz distress inks to stipple around a hiedi swapp bracket mask, and I now absolutely love the technique. I've seen so many people do this technique and use inks and paints on their pages, but I haven't tried up until now. I'm sure it's something you'll see more of now I've tried it though :)

For this page I've used the colour scheme that Emilie set on her blog last Sunday. I don't use challenge colour schemes very often but am very glad I have with this page as I wouldn't have combined these colours otherwise, but they look great together. Thanks Emilie

All of the flowers on this page have been handmade, both a mixture of crepe paper twisted flowers, layered felt and a new flower made using a fab tutorial I've just found here.

I've interpreted the pencil lines sketch by using one photo and leaving the space that should be for the second photo as blank paper. The twirled line of journalling under the photo lent itself to the trail of a butterfly brilliantly, so that's what I've done. The journalling reads :-

There is a real theme to both of my pages this week, they are both about my Art GCSE. The first is photos I took for a coursework piece and the journalling comments on the fact that I was willing to look stupid lying on the floor of a hairdressers taking photos. The second is a photo I took of a family friends baby, for my final exam piece, and as the journalling says, I got an A* for my Art so I owe a big thank you to the baby for all of the photos I was allowed to take.

On to some non crafty news. I had my AS module results back on Thursday. I'm so happy with them. For Biology I got 85/90, an A, and for my two maths modules I strangely managed to get the same score on both, 94/100, which is an A at the minute. I say at the minute because if I get over 90 in my next three A2 modules I can get one of the new A*, which is what I really really want. So as you can imagine, I'm rather chuffed with those, especially with Biology which I find quite a tough subject.

Anyway, that's it from me for today, I should hopefully be back tomorrow with some portrait photos to share :)

Word-A-Week photography challenge #3

Hi everyone, here is my photos for reflection :)

Once again I wanted to take photos of a beautiful lake with a lovely reflection or something, but alas I haven't had a chance to go out and find a beautiful lake. So this weeks photos are taken using a mirror to create a reflection. First up, a few flowers.

And another photo I've taken which represents reflection is a photo of myself. I've been looking at a few challenge blogs recently and came across a challenge (The Studio I think it was) to scrap your age and how you feel. So here's a photo I've taken so I can do this challenge. I quite like it, obviously the focus isn't as great but I like me in it, which is always a challenge :)

Oh Dear!

This is the title of my recent scrapbook page. It's a photo I've wanted to scrap for a while and after having a day out at Guide training yesterday, I decided to make time for a scrapbook page. I'll let the journalling describe the story itself!!

The journalling reads:-

Dear oh dear!!....It took us ages to realise that we were all wearing the same clothing. We'd walked around Tesco like this, no wonder we were getting very odd looks..

This photo was taken a couple of years ago but the memory is still very vivid!!

I have used the Sketchy Thursday's sketch for this page.

I have flipped the sketch and replaced all but 1 of the photo's with paper instead. I have replaced the journalling with the title and the square background paper is used as a journalling border instead.

I am really pleased with this page, finally I have made some bunting, something I've wanted to try for ages. It's also my first hybrid page, using elements that you may recognise from my sea view digi page.

Word-A-Week photography challenge #2

Hi everyone,
Here are my photos as promised. I enjoyed trying to think of how to portray calm. I wanted to get a beautiful calm lake or scene, but being at school all week and living in an area where there isn't any breathtaking scenery right on my doorstep, I followed the route of things that make me calm. This was an interesting thing in itself...what makes me calm?? This is what I came up with

Watching a flickering flame and a beautiful candle, that is what makes me calm. I love it, especially this new candle that I bought Mum for Christmas, one of the gorgeous ones that reveal a lace effect as it burns. Lovely frangranced candles, they're even better, they really make me relax and feel calm.

This photo was a complete fluke, I was changing white balances whilst taking photos of the candle and suddenly I took this photo.

I haven't converted this photo to black and white, but it looks like I have. I think I took this on the tungsten white balance. I love it. :)

Another take on calm. I was reading a new book during the week, one with lots of funny sayings in it, and at the back of the book there was a n advert for another book

This remided me of the phase we all seem to be going through at the moment. I keep seeing these 'Keep Calm and ...' sayings everywhere at the minute, they've just suddenly appeared everywhere.

I hope you like my photos (all SOOC (straight out of camera)), it was great fun trying the candle photos with the new camera.

Word-A-Week photography challenge #3

Hi everyone,
It's time for the 3rd week of the word-a-week challenge. Here is next weeks word.

Reflection. Wow, what a good word, this should be good and open to a wide interpretation. Have fun with this one :)

No, I haven't forgotten last weeks!! I have done my images but my evenings have been very hectic over the past few days so haven't had time to upload. I'll put them on sometime over the weekend, whenever I can. Tonight has been especially hectic, trying to organise activities for our ranger meeting this evening at the last minute as the leader is ill!!
