I want to be like you

Hi everyone,

I've a layout to share with you today, using this weeks Sketchy Thursday's sketch. It's a great and very interesting sketch this week, and I really enjoyed making my layout.

I started this LO last Friday, but finally managed to find a tiny bit of time to finish it and photograph it. I am really pleased with this LO, I love that crate paper background paper and I really like using these colours at the moment, they're similar to my 'for one weekend only' layout. It's quite fitting really, Father's day yesterday and my scrapbook page is about me and my Father.

The journalling reads  'These photos make me laugh. Maybe this is where my love of maths has come from. Sitting on Dad's lap whilst he works and reading his accountancy magazines at the age of 2, it's no surprise I'm interested in maths!!'

My exams are over!!!!! I've had my last one today, yipeeee. Well it would've been nicer if I'd finished on a high, my exam today was awful. It was a maths exam (yes I know I've just said I love maths, but today I really don't). It was an A2 level exam though, I am taking maths and further maths, so am taking A2 modules this year, eventhough I am only an AS student, so it's bound to be hard, but I hated it, I loved my one last week, felt it went quite well, but this, this was completely different.

Anyway, I shall now be enjoying a bit more freedom, I shall not be having to do work every night, so expect to see me here a bit more :)

It's Mum's birthday tomorrow, I've made her a card tonight, but shall not show you it untill tomorrow, or she might spot it on here. Pop over to say happy birthday to her, I'm sure she'll post at some point tomorrow.

I am taking CJ's portraiture photography course, which started last Friday, but as some pre-workshop homework we had to do a 'summery' self portrait. Here is mine, it was great fun taking this, and I really like it, I shall definitely be scrapping it :)

CAS-ual cards and handmade jewellery :)

Hi everyone,

Today I was back at school after my weeks off for study leave, and boy do I feel tired, it's strange just how tired a day at school makes you feel, even though I've only had 2 lessons!! I still have 2 maths exams left, which I'm still busy revising for, but yesterday afternoon I found time to have a little break and craft.

I love this weeks CAS-ual Friday's challenge, so have created a few cards for it. First up, a card ready for Father's Day.

I needed to make a card, so I made it to tie in with the challenge, and used buttons, embossed and die cut. This week, the CAS-ual team have created a tic-tac-toe board, and we have to choose a row of three and create a card using those components.

Then, I had the inspiration, so made another. This follows the buttons, flower and twine row.

I really like both of them. I hope you do too.

The flower on the second card is handmade, I have been inspired recently after finding many tutorials for flowers, so, as I said I would in my last post, I sat down in the week and tried a few of them out. Here are some of my handmade flowers

I'm looking forward to using them on my LO's, I shall post links to the tutorials when I use them on projects.


Oh, and just one other thing, I thought I'd show you a couple of bracelets I've made and a necklace. Well, I didn't really make the necklace, I bought a necklace made of many felt balls a while ago and loved it, but didn't wear it as much I'd like to as it was short and I prefer long necklaces. So, I changed it. I cut up the necklace, salvaged the felt balls, threaded them onto a strip of fabric, and tada!!

I love it, very rough, with the fabric fraying and uneven spread of the beads, but that's what I love about it :)

...And the bracelets, I have seen paper beads many times before and liked the look of them, so last week, when we were trying to think of something we could do with the guides ( I help as a young leader) , I mentioned making beads, so that's what we're doing. I'd never tried it before, and felt it'd be a good idea to give it a go before I try and teach the guides, so I did, and here is the result :)

I really love them and shall be wearing these quite often, I'm very pleased with how they looked, and hopefully the guides will like the ones they make too.

Just for me

I had a day out of revision yesterday as I had my psychology exam on Tuesday and wanted a bit of a break, before it's full speed ahead with maths revision for my final 2 exams. Psychology went well, I think, it was one of those exams where I am not sure either way, I may have done well, I may have done not so well, I'm really not sure.

Anyway, Mum and I had a little shopping trip in the morning, and then I came home and scrapped. It's been a very long time since I've created a page without following a sketch, I enjoy using sketches, I enjoy the challenge of adding my own twist to a sketch, but I was worried I'd lose the ability to scrap without a sketch before too long. So I decided to just sit down and create from nothing but an idea in my head. So here is my page.

As we only got home from our little shopping trip at about 2, I had a limited time to scrap, which, in light of my last post, was good as it challenged me to do a quicker than normal layout. It took me about 2 1/2 hours to create this, which for me is quick. It was sped up considerably by the fact I knew exactly how I would set the page out, I wanted to do quite a graphic page. I hope you like the layout, I am really pleased with it, it is quite different to my normal style, but I like it. Here's a close up of the flowers, made using the tutorial on Sutty's blog.

P.S. I have finally found how to do the ink splats that I adore on everyone's LO's. I've been trying to master it, and when I mixed the paint for this LO, I added a lot more water. I didn't necessarily want all of these ink splats like they are, I thought they'd come out like the small splats on my last few LO's, but I think these look ok, don't you?

How long does it take?

I've been scrapping today. Literally, I've been scrapping all day. It takes me ages to scrap, I try to scrap quickly, I had set myself a deadline today so I could get homework done this afternoon, but it never happened as it seems to take ages for me to create one LO. Here is the result of a whole day scrapping.

I think I like it, I'm not sure, I don't love it like I do some of my other pages, but I'm not sure why. Here are some close ups

I decided to do my journalling across a few journalling blocks, as I have seen many others doing this and like the effect. I have used some of my new October Afternoon journalling block stickers, I'm loving this company at the moment, the background paper is there's too.

I've seen a few paper windmill embellishments recently, so I decided to make one myself, I love it in felt, it works really well :)

I've made two of these flowers myself, the green one and the felt one. I really enjoyed making them, it feels great to handmake such pretty flowers for your own layouts. I might sit down some time, when I have a bit more time, and make a whole batch of flowers, experimenting with colours, techniques and designs.

This LO follows the current Sketchy Thursday's sketch 6.2, which is a really great sketch and I may have to revisit it. Here's the sketch


Do you see the stitched border around the LO? That's probably the culprit as to why I spent so long on the LO. We have no sewing machine, so I have had to sit and sew the entire border, and I am not quick at sewing. We will get a sewing machine at some point, Mum and I both want one and I think Mum may be asking for one for her birthday, so hopefully...

So, how long do you spend making a LO? Are you quite a quick scrapper, and if so, do you have any tips? Do you scrap a LO all in one go, or do you start it and then keep coming back until you're finished? I'd love to hear from you.

I hope you like it, and please leave any tips you can, I can't afford to keep spending whole days scrapbooking when I should be working, and I don't want to stop scrapbooking!!!!

Found my own style

Today I thought I'd share with you 2 of the 3 She Art girls I created at the weekend. I am very pleased with them all, I feel I have really developed my own style now and it is recognisable in the last few I've created.

'She expressed herself through art'

I planned this girl a while back. I had kept the paint palette from the first few girls I'd created, with the view to using it as a background. I added a bit more paint to the already colourful palette, then added texture paste, bubble wrap prints, almost all of the technique's I've learnt from Christy. The pictures don't really do the texture of this piece any justice, because it was a paint palette their are lumps, bumps, bristle marks, all sorts of texture all over it. I really wanted to try this artist girl, and I am so pleased with the way she came out. I am pleased with the apron, the brushes sticking out of her pocket, and I wouldn't mind a pair of those spotty trousers myself !! :)

'She was the heart of the family'

This is another girl I have had planned out in my head for a while. I'm pleased with the finished product, I like her clothing and hair, plus, as with the first, I have loved the way people on the flickr group have been mixing lettering for the words, so have tried it on both and loved it. She is on a sheet of chipboard measuring 6x10", as have many of my previous girls. I am planning to bind them all into a book once I've decorated them, plus do the odd one on canvas to go around the house (like the 3rd one from this weekend which I shall show you soon :) )
