Poor little neglected blog

Hi all,
This is Hannah here, do you remember me? :)

Don't let anyone tell you that A levels are getting easier and people don't put in much effort for them anymore. It may be true in some cases, but definitely not in mine :) I have been working hard recently, with my final A level exams gradually approaching. It's the Easter break now, so lots of time to get some good revision done (well, that's the plan, I shall aim to keep to it :)

Hopefully I shall find a little time to craft over Easter. I have been crafty, but only a tiny little bit, in order to make items for mothers day. So, I'm here today to share them with you.

This is the card I made for Mother's day. I had been given inspiration for this card a long time ago, unfortunately I cannot find it now, but it was on Amber's blog 'Damask Love'. I was quite pleased with how it turned out, and Mum liked it which is the most important thing :)
I also decorated cupcakes for Mother's day this year. We had a cupcake night at my Ranger's, specifically planned with Mother's day in mind, and we had great fun making icing and decorating the cakes, oh, and making a mess too :)

Here are the cupcakes I decorated. I rolled out and formed some flower petals prior to the evening, so they would support themselves and look realistic when placed on the cupcakes. They didn't last :( Unfortunately by the time I had got around to taking photos and giving them to mum, the moisture from the cakes and icing had caused the petals to flop. I really loved making them though, I think I may make some more for Easter :)

So, that's the extent of my creative side over the past 5 weeks that I've been absent from this poor little blog. I do have other news for you though. I now have a job, which is another reason my creative time has been lacking. I have a weekend job at our local garden centre, which is brilliant, I am enjoying it and it is great to be earning my own money for the first time :) I work every other weekend, so it fits perfectly with my school work, and so far I have found time to keep comfortably up with both.
I have other news too, and this is the news I am most pleased and proud of. I resat some of my Math's modules from last year in January, and have been given the results back. I am very proud to tell you that I have now achieved an A* in Mathematics. I was so so chuffed :) My offer from Bath of A*AA now feels so much more achievable, and they do not mind if you have resat to achieve the A*, so now, I need 2 A's and I should, hopefully, very hopefully, get into Bath university :) It's a lovely weight off my shoulders, although obviously I haven't let myself slack now, and am working my socks off to get the other grades. I also sat two maths modules that count towards my further maths A level, achieving 100% in one of them and 95% in the other, which I am very pleased with :)

Ok, so that's my little update, hopefully I shall be back during half term sometime :) Thanks for coming back and looking at my blog again :) Sorry I haven't been able to look around at all of your gorgeous blogs and crafts for a long time.

A long time

Hi all,

I'm so so sorry it has been ages since I've visited you all in blogland and posted anything on here. Life has been busy what with January modular exams, and many other things.

I'll give you a little update later in the post, but to start off I'll share with you a digital scrapbook page I have just made. I sat down today after school and decided to make a digi page. I wanted to finally get around to creating a page for Miss Smith's Just One Sketch Class, which started over a month ago. I created my sketch back in the beginning of January, but hadn't, as yet, managed to find time to start the class and use it. So here we go, my first page for the class.

Here is the sketch I have created for the class.

Prompt 1 for the class was to simply use your sketch to create a layout, so I have stuck quite closely to the sketch, and really like the result.

I also created this LO for the current TPV challenge which gives you photo inspiration. Unfortunately I have just realised and remembered that the main criteria for 'The Paper Variety' is the Paper, so digital layouts do not count :( Oh well, it was great inspiration and I like the layout so no loss really.
Here's the photo inspiration I used

I used the colours as inspiration, using only white, grey, black, green, and then a splash of the brown/ginger to match her hair. I also took inspiration from the fact the film is apparently set in Ireland, and scrapped a photo from my trip to Northern Ireland in 2010. I decided to mimic the text and fonts on my LO, so used a big white alphabet for the title, and then have written my journalling in the style of the credits on the poster. Here's a close up of the journalling to show what I have mean.

Right, so, where have I been and what have I been up to. 

University, I have a fair bit to update you on for that. I have finally heard back from the University of Bath, I was waiting for ages and beginning to feel quite impatient. They got back to me last week with an offer of A*AA. I am really hoping I can/have achieved that as I really really want to go to Bath, it's a gorgeous uni with a stunning course.

I have been to department open days at both York and Warwick over the last few weeks. I really like York too, not as much as Bath, but it is a lovely university with may opportunities and facilities, so it shall be my insurance choice. I didn't think much to Warwick at all, it felt too much like an industrial park, just lots of grey big buildings as the departments. 

What other news have I got. Oh yes, I am now legally allowed out there on the roads on my own as I passed my driving test last week :) So pleased to have passed first time.

I can't think of anything else, apart from being busy keeping on top of the A level work.

I hope you are all well. Sorry I have not been around to comment or anything recently, hopefully I shall get the chance to visit you in the next few days.

Update

Hi all,

I've finally found time to just sit in front of the computer and type!! So here goes, a bit of an update on my hectic life.

We've now broken up from school. Yipee, I'm looking forward to the slight break I'll get over this Christmas. I have scrapbooking I want to do, a driving theory test to prepare for, Christmas decorating to do and lots of school work ready for January exams.

So, I'll start by telling you about Oxford. I went down to Oxford last Sunday afternoon and arrived at my college, Lady Margaret Hall, in time for the evening dinner. Straight away the college felt so friendly, everyone would speak to you and it was easy to make friends. I then spent the first evening settling into my room and chatting away to people in the JCR (junior common room). I was first up for interview for our subject, with my interview at 10am no the Monday. The interviews are very strange. The tutors are all lovely, and I didn't feel too nervous which was good. As expected the questions were tough, and it's incredibly hard to possibly say whether I think it went well or not, because no one knows specifically what they're looking for, and you don't know if you're what they want. It didn't go horrendously bad though, and I did my best. I then went into Oxford in the afternoon to shop a little and enjoy the gorgeous city and Christmas feel. I had another interview on Tuesday, everyone applying for Experimental Psychology gets 2 interviews, and my second was at Somerville. This one didn't feel too bad either, it was very different from the first as the tutors had obviously conversed and the second was a lot more about the subject and not about me. Again, I tried my best, an whatever happens now, I know I tried my best, showed them the real me and I'm proud enough to have got to interview.
We shall hear back from them in the next few days, they said that reply letters shall be sent by the 20th, so I'll know by Christmas. I made so many great friends whilst I was there, thoroughly enjoyed the experience, and shall be happy either way, whatever the outcome, as it's been a great journey and I am proud to have got this far.

My mock exam went ok on Thursday, it was a Biology mock. I am finding Biology quite hard at the moment, there is just sooo much to know and to apply to strange situations. I'll definitely be doing a lot of Biology work over Christmas to try and pack my brain with the facts.
We also had our sixth form Christmas social event on Thursday, which was great fun :)
I have finished and given out my friends Christmas presents. I haven't yet sorted the photos I took of them, so I shall show you their presents another day :)
I managed to fit in a bit of Christmas baking yesterday, it's ages since I've baked. I've made some Christmas spice biscuits, and they are really quite yummy even if I do say so myself. Hoping to make some peppermint creams later today, I LOVE peppermint creams, soooo gorgeous, yum yum :D

Hi all,
Sorry once again for being absent, I have meant to pop back and let you know how everything has been going, but it's so busy here that I haven't even had chance for that. Today though, I will make time to update you all.
First up though, it's time to say thanks to TPV. At TPV, the current DT are nearing the end of the time with the challenge, and that unfortunately includes me. Boy has it gone quick!! Team B have 3 more challenges left, and today I am here to share one of those, so now it's down to 2!

My card was made to thank an amazing group of people that I spent my half term with. During the half term week I had a week of work experience with the NHS, working with one of their IAPT groups. I had a thoroughly brilliant time, I learnt so much, met many great people and enjoyed experiencing Psychology as a profession. I really hope they liked their card, I just had to make one and send it, I had appreciated the work experience so much.

I got inspiration for this card from one of Mum's card magazines. I had seen it a while ago and loved it, so knew what design I would use for this card. I used a mixture of papers and ribbons for this card, then stitched white zigzag lines along the edges of each. I hope you like it.

In my last post I mentioned my entrance exam for Oxford. I had to sit the TSA exam which is for those wishing to study Psychology, Economics or Philosophy. I was the only one from my school taking that exam, so was sat in a little room on my own. The test was hard, very, very hard, although I wasn't expecting anything else, they have to make it hard as at the end of the day they only want those with the highest ability. I don't think it went particularly well, it really didn't, but I have to wait until January to get the results form the test. I should hear back from Oxford in the next few weeks to find our if I have been short-listed for interview, so I shall just have to wait until then. The exam was bad, but since I have made myself be positive, I tried my best, I worked hard to practise as much as I could before hand, and I shall just have to wait to hear back from them, I can't change anything now. I shall let you know when I hear anything back.
My application was sent off just over a month ago, and I have so far heard back from one of my University choices making me an offer, which is very exciting, I'm pleased to know they've received it and that someone likes the look of my application :) I'll keep you updated.

Since the entry exam I have felt like I can breath a little more, although I have since devoted myself to my A level subjects as I have modules in January and I've let them slip a little whilst preparing for my entry exam. So, it's work work work here, hence me being so quiet, but I don't mind, I know that the effort I put in now will be beneficial and it'll help me get where I want to be. :)

So, I've updated you up to the current day. I'll try and keep you posted, but for now, thanks for reading. I hope to see your entries over at TPV this week, and I shall be back here soon. :)

Little forest friends

Hi all,

Today I have a few things to share with you.
First up, today it's team B's turn again over at TPV.

Today the challenge is...

Create a project that includes a forest friend

You have already seen a sneak peek, but here is my full project :)

I made this card for a friend, who's birthday it was this past weekend. My friend loves animals, especially little cute pictures of them, so this suited her perfectly, and I had to use this cute little hedgehog. 

The image stamps are from Little Clare, which I have stamped and then coloured using Mum's coloursoft pencils. I have then cut the images into 4cm squares, and cut three squares of the same size from some of the  lovely October afternoon Modern Homemaker papers. I created 2 coordinating flowers using a small punch, outlined with a pen to match the design of the images, then have sewn around the edge of the patterned squares using a sewing machine. The sentiment used is one of the gorgeous Paper Smooches sentiments, and then I finished the card with a wrap of twine.

She loves sushi, and these earrings really appealed to her. I have created them out of Fimo, following instructions from a superb little book I bought a while ago. I was so pleased that she liked them, there is something really  special about being able to give gifts to your friends that have been handmade, especially when they love them.

So, I am now back into the swing of sixth form, with a lot of work and deadlines to keep to. I have my TSA entry assessment rapidly drawing closer for my Oxford uni application, so am busy at the moment juggling subject work with practising the many different required skills for the entry exam. I am also continuing with my driving lessons, I've managed roundabouts, dual carriageway, slip roads and a bit of manoeuvring now. :) I'm afraid this means crafting is taking a bit of a back seat, I will still be doing it when I can, but it may be a bit less frequent.

It's Results day!! and a celebration announcement

Hey all,
I just thought I'd write a quick note on here to tell you my AS and A2 results. I've just been into school to collect them. I was slightly nervous for these as I have my expectations high, but thankfully I achieved my hopes and am not devastated. I achieved an A in AS biology, an A in AS psychology and an A in A2 level mathematics :) I am pleased with that, and thankfully it looks like I'm on track to possibly achieve the grades I need to go to my chosen universities. I just need to continue my incredibly hard work and hope :)

We are off camping this weekend as a family. It'll be great to go camping us 4 as we haven't done that for years. James has grown up a lot more since, so hopefully it may be a bit more relaxed and enjoyable. I just hope the weather isn't too bad for us.

Summer's here

Hi all,
Summer is here, school has finished :)
We spent this morning having 'summer olympics'. It sounds very competitive and sporty doesn't it. It was competitive, but sporty, well ..... it was basically like a year 2 sports day, but with older kids!! Sack races, egg and spoon race, obstacle races, we had it all, and it was a great fun way to end a very busy and tiring year. I am really looking forward to a bit of a break this summer, a bit more crafting, maybe some more she art and of course, scrapbooking. I shall be doing work though, it's impossible for me to not!! I have lots of reading material, and I want to get a little head start for the difficult Biology course next year, plus I'd like to start organising work experience, and plans for my long summer next year before university :)

I thought I'd share with you today a she art canvas. Remember a few months ago I told you I'd created 3 she art canvases, well I only ever showed you 2!! So, without further ado, here's the 3rd!!

This is me :) I made this to sit on my picture shelf in my room. It is very special, and has the role of reminding me of my GCSE's and achievements, and to keep me ploughing on forward if I ever lose pace. I am really pleased with it, I found it harder to create this as I was basing it on me, I  had to try and make me look good didn't I!! :) Also, fringes are quite hard!! Here are some close ups :)

Sorry I'd forgotten to post it, that just proves how hectic life has been.

I think this may be it from me for a few days, I think a good lie-in is due tomorrow, and I have a few things to get done.

I'm back

Hello all,

I am back from my amazing week in Wales. It really was amazing!! We didn't have a single drop of rain the whole week, the activities were enjoyable and the free time with my mates in the evenings was brilliant fun. We got back Friday evening, I am still shattered from the late nights and busy days, but it was worth it :) Wales is a gorgeous place, I can't believe we haven't explored that area as a holiday before, but we shall have to now. Here is one of my favourite photos from the week.

Yes, this really is Wales, and oh yes, it's a dandelion again :D Some of you may know it as a constantly wet place, I guess we just had a very lucky week. This was taken whilst laying in a meadow, sunbathing, after carrying out one of our coursework assignments on the nearby dry stone wall. I'm glad I had sun cream on this day, I didn't want to get burnt even more than I had the day before!!

To relax, and enjoy a task that wasn't identifying lichen on a tree, I created a scrapbook layout at the weekend. Here is my LO, I have followed Sketchy Thursday's GDT sketch and used the three requirements which were
• A summer topic
• The colors red, orange and/or yellow
• A journaling spot

The summer topic is quite obvious really, as are the colours, and the journalling spot is nestled behind the two flowers, but I have also printed my journalling on strips.

I am quite pleased with the LO, although there is one thing I don't like, I don't like the 'summer', there is too big a gap between the 'summer' and 'portrait', but pva glue isn't forgiving and I couldn't change it without ripping too much paper.

Christmas in July

A little post from me today, to show you my layout for this week's TPV and Sketchy Thursday's challenge. It was team A's first challenge this week at TPV, 'Christmas in July'.

I have decided to join in, as I have plenty of photos from last Christmas to scrap and a new(ish) pad of paper to tuck into.

So here is my LO

I am quite pleased with this LO, as well as following the TPV challenge I used this weeks sketchy Thursday's sketch.

I have kept the bunting in the same position, but rotated the body of the sketch and swapped the small photo and the circle embellishment around. This sketch was great to use, such a lovely composition. :)

I visited Oxford university last Wednesday, it's a beautiful city and the university is as lovely as expected. We all enjoyed walking around, visiting a few colleges and the Psychology department. I think we are going to go back for the September open day, so we can look around a few more colleges and maybe browse a few of the shops :)

I am off to Wales this week, it'll be my first trip to Wales and I am really looking forward to it. We are going to a field centre for a Biology trip, it'll be a week of surveying the rivers, dunes and doing many practical experiments.

I am coming home on Friday, so until then, bye from me :)



I want to be like you

Hi everyone,

I've a layout to share with you today, using this weeks Sketchy Thursday's sketch. It's a great and very interesting sketch this week, and I really enjoyed making my layout.

I started this LO last Friday, but finally managed to find a tiny bit of time to finish it and photograph it. I am really pleased with this LO, I love that crate paper background paper and I really like using these colours at the moment, they're similar to my 'for one weekend only' layout. It's quite fitting really, Father's day yesterday and my scrapbook page is about me and my Father.

The journalling reads  'These photos make me laugh. Maybe this is where my love of maths has come from. Sitting on Dad's lap whilst he works and reading his accountancy magazines at the age of 2, it's no surprise I'm interested in maths!!'

So I have followed this challenge, using 4 different fonts for my title, plus including my handwriting on the LO. It's a great challenge blog, with very different challenges each week, so why not head over by clicking here, and take a look.

My exams are over!!!!! I've had my last one today, yipeeee. Well it would've been nicer if I'd finished on a high, my exam today was awful. It was a maths exam (yes I know I've just said I love maths, but today I really don't). It was an A2 level exam though, I am taking maths and further maths, so am taking A2 modules this year, eventhough I am only an AS student, so it's bound to be hard, but I hated it, I loved my one last week, felt it went quite well, but this, this was completely different.

Anyway, I shall now be enjoying a bit more freedom, I shall not be having to do work every night, so expect to see me here a bit more :)

It's Mum's birthday tomorrow, I've made her a card tonight, but shall not show you it untill tomorrow, or she might spot it on here. Pop over to say happy birthday to her, I'm sure she'll post at some point tomorrow.

I am taking CJ's portraiture photography course, which started last Friday, but as some pre-workshop homework we had to do a 'summery' self portrait. Here is mine, it was great fun taking this, and I really like it, I shall definitely be scrapping it :)

Ahhhhh, I am so relieved, I have just had my Biology exam, my worst subject of them all.
I was so nervous this morning, the most I have ever been for an exam, but it was fine :) lol 
It always is isn't it, those you are most nervous about tend to be the one's that exceed your expectations, I guess it's because they're set so low you can't really do worse!!
So anyway, I thought I'd quickly come and say that I feel my Biology exam went ok and my psychology research methods yesterday was not too bad either. They were really mean in the psychology one and put 1/3 of the entire marks into 2 questions, so I just really hope I got those marks.
THANK YOU ever so much for the good luck wishes, they really helped. And wow, 32 comments on my card, that's the most I've ever had on a post, so thanks so much :) Oh and I got picked as a fave again over at Sketchy Thursday's, really can't believe it.

Right, I still have revising to do over the half term hol next week for exams the week after but for the time being, I think a bit of She Art is in order for tonight :)

Word-A-Week photography challenge #10 and a scrapbook page

So first off today, my photo for last week's word-a-week challenge. The theme was 'letters'.

This shows, many, many letters and sums up life for me at the moment.
Revision, revision, revision. I am spending most of my weekends making revision sheets like this one, particularly for Biology which is the subject I am struggling with most. I used the prime lens to get a really shallow DofF, which I love :)

The large amount of revision explains why I haven't been scrapping much recently, I've missed 2 sketchy Thursday's sketches and Emilie's colour challenge for a few weeks, and it looks like I'll probably miss this weeks too!! However, on Friday night, after a full day of lessons and lots of work, I decided to sit down and scrap. I noticed a page from my Prom book that I'd started and didn't like, so I decided to sort it out. Here is how it finished up.

I quite like it now, it feels good to have rescued it, and I'm very glad I stopped and walked away before sticking it down when I first tried it as I much prefer this attempt. I am very pleased with the flower. I finally plucked up the courage to try the technique where you melt the edges of the fabric, making it ruffle slightly and stop fraying. It looked awful before, so flat and lifeless, but as soon as you heat it it gives it a great form and a bit of life. I shall definitely be doing more of these sort of flowers :)

I hope you've all had a great weekend, it's been nice weather here again, although we still haven't had much rain!!!

Crafty goodness and module results

I've a few crafty things to share with you today.

First of all, a birthday card. One of my friends turned 17 this week and this is the card I made for her.

She loves dogs, so, after persuading Mum to buy this cute dog digi stamp from Bee Crafty downloads, I suddenly realised a perfect use for it. I've coloured it using my Pastel pencils (it was great using them again after buying them for my Art GCSE and not using them since), wrapped brown and white bakers twine around the front of the card with a slit cut in the spine, and then stamped the greeting. She liked the card, which is the most important thing :)

Now, some more crafting. I've managed to do pencil lines sketch 228 this week, and used it not once but twice!! During the week I made a digi page using the sketch, here it is,

And today I have sat down and done the 'paper and scissors' scrapbook page I'd been planning in my head all week. I am really pleased with it, here it is

I have used Tim Holtz distress inks to stipple around a hiedi swapp bracket mask, and I now absolutely love the technique. I've seen so many people do this technique and use inks and paints on their pages, but I haven't tried up until now. I'm sure it's something you'll see more of now I've tried it though :)

For this page I've used the colour scheme that Emilie set on her blog last Sunday. I don't use challenge colour schemes very often but am very glad I have with this page as I wouldn't have combined these colours otherwise, but they look great together. Thanks Emilie

All of the flowers on this page have been handmade, both a mixture of crepe paper twisted flowers, layered felt and a new flower made using a fab tutorial I've just found here.

I've interpreted the pencil lines sketch by using one photo and leaving the space that should be for the second photo as blank paper. The twirled line of journalling under the photo lent itself to the trail of a butterfly brilliantly, so that's what I've done. The journalling reads :-

There is a real theme to both of my pages this week, they are both about my Art GCSE. The first is photos I took for a coursework piece and the journalling comments on the fact that I was willing to look stupid lying on the floor of a hairdressers taking photos. The second is a photo I took of a family friends baby, for my final exam piece, and as the journalling says, I got an A* for my Art so I owe a big thank you to the baby for all of the photos I was allowed to take.

On to some non crafty news. I had my AS module results back on Thursday. I'm so happy with them. For Biology I got 85/90, an A, and for my two maths modules I strangely managed to get the same score on both, 94/100, which is an A at the minute. I say at the minute because if I get over 90 in my next three A2 modules I can get one of the new A*, which is what I really really want. So as you can imagine, I'm rather chuffed with those, especially with Biology which I find quite a tough subject.
